Thanks for the background information. This is of interest to me, but unfortunately isn't a substitute for information from established third party law experts. The situation remains that I only have evidence to support one side i.e. it appears to be illegal.  Once this changes it is reasonable for me to accept it, but until then I have no valid reason to do so.

I sat in a room where a Pertemps employee told the young people there that doing charity work was compulsory for them. That is restricting their choice of work placement, therefore being discriminatory on the basis of age.  Restricting choice is not a positive contribution to anything. To do so, as far as I can tell, is against the terms of both the contract and the law.
